The New Frontier

The cosmologist Sir Arthur Eddington, wrote, in the Minds Eye: We used to think that we knew 1+1 because we knew one, and we knew two. We are discovering more and more that the mystery lies in "and". Where then is the Frontier of physics? Some will say it exclusively lies in reductionism the unification of gravity and quantum physics are examples of such unsolved mysteries. Yet there is an equally vast mystery to be solved understanding the way the quantum world builds up our world around us, from the atom, to the crystal and the superconductor, to soft matter, and ultimately life itself. This is the new frontier of emergence.
